Will Mr. Chamberlain Continue As Prime Minister? Character Contrasted with that of Brilliant, Loyal Rival Will Mr. Chamberlain continue as Prime Minister throughout the war? If he is supplanted will it be by the Foreign Secretary, Lord Halifax, or by the brilliant, vigorous, though sometimes erratic, Winston Churchill? Mr. Beverley Baxter, M.P., answers that question. He gives a fascinating sketch of the personalities of Mr. Chamberlain and Mr. Churchill, and recalls their violent personal antagonisms over a period of years. But he says, in spite of his temperamental defects Mr. Churchill is absolutely loyal. He quotes a disparaging remark made about the Prime Minister by Churchill's talkative son Randolph When the son was rebuked he replied, "I have heard you say the same thing about Chamberlain a dozen times." "That is possibly true," replied Mr. Churchill, "but he is now my leader and I will not have him spoken of disrespectfully at my table." And so, concludes Mr. Beverley Baxter, Churchill will remain loyal, though he knows that his best chance is as a war-time Prime Minister and that with the return of peace the country will automatically return of Lord Halifax as successor to Mr. Chamberlain
